Chitra Saha - Jute Artisan & Trainer

I don’t remember exactly when, but I do remember that I was a child when I used to love sitting with my mother and learn making various handicraft work. Sometimes on a piece of fabric with colourful threads, sometimes with wool, and so many other things. Not just my mother, I also learned to make many other crafts from my maternal aunt. They both were like Maa Saraswati for me, the goddess of wisdom, knowledge, and skills.

When I grew up, I already knew how to make various products, but I never had a proper certification to showcase my skills at the right platforms. I decided to take a training myself and get a certification. I started attending various fairs in different states within India. I even got the opportunity to visit abroad a few times. At some point, I decided it’s time for me to share my skills with others, and show light to them, and guide them to the World of handicrafts. So far, I have trained thousands of girls and boys, mostly in rural areas.

The journey of an Artisan is never easy. We know how to make various products, but in today’s World just making the products is not enough. Until and unless we get the opportunity to showcase those products in front of the World, and people love those products and buy them, we don’t succeed. We definitely need more businesses, and also general people to come forward to encourage artisans living anywhere in India. When you buy a handcrafted product, you provide an opportunity to any artisan to fulfill their dreams. Also, you become the carrier of our culture & tradition to pass it on to the next generations.

Thank you,

God Bless you all,
